Frequently Asked Questions

How will we measure the results of this program?

At your first session, we will discuss exactly what you want out of this experience and agree on some realistic goals. Once we have agreed upon some realistic goals, we will put together a summary of your objectives. At the end of our time together, we will reassess to insure your goals have been met.

Aren’t I, as a parent, the best one to help my child with these decisions?

You are a great resource for your child during this exciting time in their lives. We rely on you to be involved in this process as well. However, we understand that with all of these very important decisions to make, your child may feel more comfortable discussing their opinions with an unbiased, third party. Furthermore, with Insight Advisors doing all of the research for you, you can spend that valuable time enjoying your teenagers while they’re still at home instead of getting frustrated as you’re trying to sift through thousands of pages of information on this matter.

How long will the sessions last?

Each session lasts approximately 1-2 hours.

How many sessions will there be?

There will be 2-6 sessions, depending upon the package that you choose.

When and where will the sessions be held?

Scheduling of sessions will be flexible, determined by the student’s schedule. Insight Advisors is available morning through evening, weekdays and weekends. We typically meet clients at a coffee house near your home to make things convenient for you.

How are payments structured, and what forms of payment do you accept?

Packages under $500 are to be paid in full at your first official session. Packages over $500 will require 50% down at the first session with the remaining 50% to be collected at the final session. You can pay by check or credit card through PayPal.

What age should my child be when they meet with you?

We believe that the younger your child begins thinking about these issues, the better. We work with 8th grade graduates on up to college students, and we create an individualized plan for each student based on his or her particular situation.

My child has a guidance counselor at school, can’t they get all of this help from them?

School counselors are a very important resource. They have a wealth of information on these topics, and we will encourage you to keep them informed of our discussions. Unfortunately, today’s guidance counselors are overworked. Their responsibilities are far reaching and include test administration, family issues, student discipline, course selection, etc. Insight Advisors serves as an extension of your counselors, ensuring that the vital decisions of college and career selection receive the time and devotion they deserve.

Will parents be present during these sessions?

Parents are present at our first meeting, where we set goals and discuss expectations. After that, we believe it is more effective to meet with the student individually, so they can more freely express their true opinions. The parent(s) are then invited back to the final session for a synopsis of our discussions.

How is Insight Advisors different from other educational consulting companies?

Insight Advisors focuses on the big picture, teaming up with students to create a long term plan and give them a resource that they can turn to throughout these important years in their lives. We focus our time on obtaining in-depth knowledge of our clients so that they too will better understand themselves. Many other companies have a narrow focus of helping your child get into the school of their choice. Insight Advisors feels it is necessary to incorporate discussions on career choice and personality in order to help you make the best decision possible.

My child has already taken the MBTI and/or Strong Interest Inventory, isn’t once sufficient?

While many institutions are now offering these assessments, few of them do the interpretation necessary after it has been completed. These assessments can be very helpful, but only if they are given the proper time and attention.
